Question:
During an inspection for home sale, we were told that two block walls in the basement were 5/8” off plumb. What should we fix, and where should we go to fix it?
Answer:
Your best options are having an independent evaluation, or repair contractor. I suggest an individual evaluation by an independent expert like Chuck Weber and Mike Shadid. As far as repair companies, Gaidish and BSIR are very good, but I would not recommend repair without an evaluation.
You should also consider what the home inspector told you, and what needs to be done. The 5/8″ movement data by itself is difficult to use. If the basement was evaluated, what did the home inspector recommend? Discuss this with your inspector and review the report in detail.
Have a great Fix-It day!
